Superintendent Interview Timeline/Process Update
The Manson School Board approved invitations to interview for the open Manson School Superintendent position.
Five candidates have been invited to participate in the next step in the process scheduled for May 5, 6 & 7.

The new Superintendent will begin serving in the role on July 1st 2020.

Board will observe Community Forum – then enter into an Executive Session to discuss candidate qualifications – any action will be made in open meeting..
The State Board of Education, the Educational Opportunity Gap Oversight and Accountability Committee (EOGOAC), and the Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction have identified 20 North Central Washington schools to be honored as part of the Washington School Recognition Program.
Manson Middle School was recognized for closing gaps for one or more student groups and for growth for students who qualify for the free and reduced price lunch program, students identifying as Hispanic, and students identifying as White.
Manson High School was recognized for growth for students who receive special education services.
"The Special Services staff at Manson High School have worked hard to empower students and instill confidence. Students are now more willing to try and less worried about failing. The Manson School district has been providing meals in the community for 25 days since the shutdown and has now served over 20,000 meals to kids in our community. A team of 20+ staff works to prepare and deliver meals throughout our community using our existing bus routes. Last week the staff and students took part in dress-up days to show our school spirit. THRIVE Chelan Valley is changing their weekend food support for students from a pick up process to a delivery model beginning May 1st. Families need to register by clicking the link below.
Additionally, an anonymous donor has donated $7,500 to the Manson Volunteer Firefighters Association for Manson families in need. Gift cards for use at Manson Bay Market in the amount of $100 will be mailed to 75 families that have had a financial loss due to the COVID 19 Virus
The Manson School Board is asking our community for nominations of Manson School District Staff Members who have made a significant contribution to the lives of students and/or the greater Manson community. Recipients of this year’s award will receive a scholarship in the amount of $500 from Aaron England of England Chiropractic. They will be recognized by the Manson Chamber of Commerce “A Night to Remember” held next fall.
Selection criteria is as follows: one certificated employee (grades P-12) and one support staff employee (secretaries, bus drivers, custodians, para-professionals, food services, coaches, etc.)
Nominations have been extended until April 23, 2020 at noon. Winning nominees will be announced at the Manson School Board meeting on April 27, 2020.

Manson Staff, Families and Community,
We have kept our schools open as long as possible, as recommended by state and local public health authorities. At 1:35 p.m. today, Governor Inslee issued an executive order closing all schools until at least April 24. All Manson School District schools will close to students, effective Tuesday, March 17. Monday, March 16 is the last day of school, including athletics, activities and clubs. School offices will remain open through Friday, March 20 so families can pick up their student’s medication.
We know some families will want to keep their children home on Monday March 16, however we encourage students to attend as we’ll be preparing them for some aspects of the distance learning that will follow in the coming weeks. Staff will also be prepared to support students who have questions or are experiencing anxiety with these dramatic events.
The school day is the centerpiece of the lives of many people and we understand that extended school closure will create hardship. Children count on the reliable routine that a school day offers. Families, too, count on that routine and the knowledge that their children are cared for during the day.
Contemplating weeks without that structure and care may seem overwhelming. Please know that we are doing our very best to make decisions that will help care for all of us through this time.
Our school district staff are committed to helping our community’s families through this challenging time. Even as I type we are developing plans and thinking how we can help families with issues like food, childcare and of course continuing educational programs for of our children. As these plans are developed we will share how they will be implemented. Our goal is to begin at least some of this support by March 23rd. If we can begin sooner, we will.
The Manson School District will be sending frequent updates with information and resources via text messages, website and social media channels. Another update will be provided on Monday, March 16th. We are so grateful for your patience and understanding as we continue to work through this difficult situation. Manson School District hosted several staff from Chelan and Orondo School District to participate in a course that teaches immediate responders to administer lifesaving treatment to themselves or to others that have sustained life threatening injuries. The training provided instruction and practice on life threatening bleeding scenarios and the strategies and tools used to save lives.

Four Manson High School students applied for and were selected to attend the 2020 Legislative Conference held in Olympia at the State Capitol earlier this month. Louis Sanchez, Parker Schoenwald, Zoe Thomas and Luca Westfall traveled with Board Members Aurora Flores, Greg Neff and Superintendent Charlton to the State Capitol.
The students appreciated meeting with Representative Keith Goehner and learning about the legislative process. They also received a tour of the Capitol and Temple of Justice. A hi-light of the trip was watching 18-year-old Louis Sanchez register to vote with the Secretary of State.
On March 3rd and 4th, Manson High School seniors participated in their annual mock interview program.
Ten community members from the valley participated: Lake Chelan Community Hospital, Mountain View Lodge, Chelan County Sheriff Department, Chelan County P.U.D, Manson Fire District, Wapato Point Cellars and BBQ in the Vineyard, Manson School District and the Manson Parks Department. Members from each business interviewed seniors from the class of 2020.
The purpose of the mock interviews is to prepare students for real-world interviews, gain potential employment and to prepare for career pathways in their chosen field. Students prepared cover letters, resumes and completed job applications for their preferred interviewer.
After the seniors interviewed with the community, they then interviewed Manson freshmen. The freshman class of 2023 prepared mock interviews for Slidewaters. All students completed resumes, cover letters and applications for the local water park. The participating seniors then interviewed the freshmen for the position as kitchen staff (the starting position for Slidewaters employees). Prior to both the senior and freshmen interviews, there was a high level of anticipation and expectation of preparedness for all Manson students, all of whom did a great job.
Manson High School is so thankful for our valley’s community members who pour time and support into our students. Thank you so much for all who contributed to this beneficial and significant program.
