ncw crime unit logoOn December 17, 2023 at approximately 8:42 PM, Douglas County Sheriff’s Office deputies received a report of a subject who was sending text messages saying they were wanting to harm themselves. The subject was reported to have access to weapons. Douglas County Deputies made attempts to locate the subject at his residence and by cell phone, with no success. Notification of the situation was also sent to all neighboring law enforcement agencies.

At approximately 10:05 PM, deputies received notification of the subject’s phone plotting near the Veteran’s Affairs Outpatient Clinic on Chester Kimm Road, Wenatchee, WA. The subject was observed, by a witness, near the clinic with his vehicle and a firearm. The subject subsequently rammed his vehicle into the clinic and discharged his firearm into the building. Wenatchee Police Department Officers and Chelan County Sheriff’s Office Deputies responded. Attempts to communicate with the subject failed and the subject fled the scene in his vehicle.

Due to the seriousness of the incident, Wenatchee Police Department Officers and Chelan County Sheriff’s Office Deputies pursued the subject into Douglas County. The vehicle stopped in the 2500 block of the Eastmont Extension. The subject exited the vehicle and confronted Officers/Deputies with a firearm. Officers/Deputies subsequently discharged their firearms, and the subject was shot and wounded. Medical care was provided to the subject until aid arrived on scene.

The suspect was transported by ambulance to Central Washington Hospital (Wenatchee) for treatment. As a result of the suspect’s injuries, they were later transferred to Harborview Medical Center (Seattle) for further treatment. No officers were reported as being injured from the incident. The North Central Washington Special Investigation Unit (NCW SIU), an independent investigative team, was activated due to this being an officer involved shooting incident.

The NCW SIU is comprised of investigators from the Chelan County Sheriff’s Office, Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, East Wenatchee Police Department, Wenatchee Police Department, and Washington State Patrol. In order to maintain an independent investigation, no investigators from the Wenatchee Police Department or the Chelan County Sheriff’s Office are involved with this incident.
