Monday’s rock blasting closure could keep Snoqualmie Pass closed for hours

E-mail Print PDF

wsdot-logoHYAK – The winter-like weather on Interstate 90 over Snoqualmie Pass caused crews to cancel the extended rock blasting closure planned earlier this week. However, a break in weather next week allows crews to reschedule the longer blast.

The Washington State Department of Transportation and contractor crews will close I-90 in both directions starting at 7 p.m., Monday, May 6, from Gold Creek (milepost 54) to Easton (milepost 71). A reopening time depends on the amount of time it takes to remove boulders and large pieces of debris. Crews will also evaluate and repair any damage to the highway. Drivers need to plan for up to four hours of additional travel time.

The rock blasting closures scheduled for Tuesday, May 7, Wednesday, May 8 and Thursday, May 9 are scheduled from 7 to 8 p.m. from Gold Creek (milepost 54) to the Price Creek Sno-Park (milepost 61).

Crews are working in a very difficult area along I-90 this year to remove rock. This work is weather dependent and subject to change. Drivers are encouraged to use the following tools to plan trips across I-90 this summer:

Students celebrate national Bike to School Day May 8

E-mail Print PDF

wsdot-logoWSDOT reminds drivers to share the road

Washington’s next generation of commuters will be taking to the streets as students across the state celebrate National Bike to School Day on Wednesday, May 8. Participating schools have planned special events to encourage students to ride their bikes or walk to school with parents, teachers and community leaders. Many events include an educational component for bicycling and walking safely.

With these events taking place, the Washington State Department of Transportation reminds motorists to share the road and watch for young bicyclists and pedestrians, especially around school zones.

“Bike to School Day promotes bicycling for transportation and helps build healthier communities,” said Secretary of Transportation Lynn Peterson. “Events raise awareness of the benefits of bicycling and walking, such as increasing physical activity among children and reducing traffic congestion and vehicle emissions in neighborhoods. They also draw attention to the need for children to have safe places to walk and ride.”

WSDOT works to improve conditions for biking and walking across the state by:

  • Helping schools to develop school walk and bike route plans
  • Providing information about pedestrian and bicyclist safety to the public
  • Conducting training and workshops for local agencies regarding WSDOT’s bicycle and pedestrian program
  • Providing funding and design assistance for better sidewalks, crossings, trails and related improvements

Information about WSDOT’s efforts to improve conditions for student pedestrians and bicyclists can be found on its Safe Routes to School website. Safety tips for bicycling and walking and other resource materials are also available.

manson_trojans_logoMANSON  VS. PATEROS DOUBLE HEADER

Manson Lady Trojans faced the number one team in their division.  Both games ended at three innings a piece.  Manson was able to get a few good plays.  The Nannies really hit the ball well forcing a lot of movement on the defense.  The Lady Trojans gained more experience from a team that is very put together.  The Lady Trojans had a difficult time at bat facing one of the best pitchers in the league.  Manson continues to improve every time we hit the field.

The Lady Trojans face Bridgeport for the last time this season on April 30th.

manson_trojans_logoMANSON VS. BRIDGEPORT

Manson   6                          Bridgeport  28

The Lady Trojans traveled to Bridgeport for a single-header that lasted three innings.  Bridgeport got off to a big lead and the Trojans could not catch up in time.  A big highlight of the game was a grand slam by short-stop freshman Karina Giles who belted one to left-center field scoring three players and herself.  Ally Paige was also big with the bat hitting 2 for 2.  Noemi Montes also added a hit for the Lady Trojans for a total of four hits in the game.  Defensively the Trojans had some errors that cost some runs.  Every error made is a lesson learned and we improve every game from those lessons.

Manson will host a double-header with Liberty Bell May 3 at Singleton Park beginning at 4:00p.m
