Life Saving Certificate: On July 9, 2011 at 2134 hours, RiverCom 911 received a 911 call for a drowning that would result in a 27 year old male going into cardiac arrest at Lake Chelan. The patient’s friends located him under water and pulled him on to a floating dock prior to Chelan Fire and Rescue and Lake Chelan Emergency Medical Services arrival. Members of Chelan Fire and Rescue would enter the water and move the patient from the floating dock to the shore where CPR would be performed before the patient was transported to Lake Chelan Community Hospital. The efforts of all involved played a measurable role in saving this life. The patient was resuscitated and has returned home to a normal and productive life. In closing comments Chief Lemon expressed his thanks and appreciation for a great job to all the members of Chelan Fire and Rescue, it was a busy and hard year with some of the largest fires Chelan has seen in recent times. “All of you (the members of Chelan Fire and Rescue) stepped up to the challenge and without you the outcome of these fires and emergencies would have been devastatingly different. My humble thanks and appreciation to each and every one of you for your time, commitment, dedication and service.” said Chief Lemon.
It should also be noted that the majority of these awards are nominated and voted on by the membership of Chelan Fire and Rescue. What a great acknowledgement of an individual’s efforts and success when his/her peers recognize them.
