G-3 Grant Awards for 2011-12

g3-topThe Giving Great Grants Project, G-3 for short, is in its fifth year of existence.  Jack and Gale Courtney of Manson established the G-3 grants in 2008 working with the Community Foundation of NCW.  The Courtney’s wanted students to take an active role in deciding how to best utilize these funds that would benefit both, the Manson School District and the Manson Community.

This year 13 applications were received.  ASB officers and class representatives reviewed the applications, determined whether applicants followed the criteria for selection and ultimately, decided which projects would be funded using the $10,000 donation.

On Friday, January 13, the ASB officers announced who the grant award recipients were, they are as follows:

  1. Mr. Matt Brown received two awards: $1,000 for a band trip to Heritage Music Festival; $500 for the Jazz Band to participate in the Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival.
  2. Principal Don Vanderholm and Administrative Secretary Krisy Nelson received $1,500 for prizes for student academic awards.
  3. Ms. Karoline Martin received two awards: $1,000 for library books; $100 for card cart supplies.
  4. Mr. Tim Bombaci received two grant awards: $750 for the Washington Student Leadership workshop for 8th graders; $500 to provide a field guide for the 6th grade trip to Holden Village.
  5. Ms. Andrea Whitney received $1080 for her Music Mania program.
  6. Ms. Diana Soliday received $100 for a new computer monitor in her classroom.
  7. Ms. RaeAnne England and Ms. Jennifer Ray were awarded $750 for the Biz Town fieldtrip for 5th grade students.
  8. Ms. Tracy Pickeral received $500 for the Pacific Science Center –Science on Wheels Program.
  9. Ms. Wendy Schramm received $220 for art projects in the Options program.

 The MHS Associated Student Body and their elected representatives, would like to thank the generous donors, Jack and Gayle Courtney of Manson Red Apple Market for making this project possible.  We are truly thankful for their ongoing support of our school district mission:  Continuous Student Learning!
