Sheriff Brian Burnett reports on May 21, 2012 at 5:00 p.m. Chelan County deputies responded to an one vehicle fatality traffic accident on Camas Creek Road in Peshastin, WA.
A witness described a pick-up leaving the roadway in the 4100 block of Camas Creek Road and striking a mature pine tree head on.
A Chelan County Sheriff’s Office collision technician specialist responded to the fatal collision and discovered evidence that the 1977 Ford pick-up appeared to have experienced failure of its brake system. The driver (in an attempt to slow the truck’s speed) left the roadway above the collision site, maneuvered the truck back onto the roadway, then attempted to negotiate the truck up the last driveway on Camas Creek Road, but missed the driveway and ultimately struck the pine tree. Neither occupant was wearing a seatbelt.
A 39 year old Peshastin man, who was driving, succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at Central Washington Hospital. His name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
UPDATE: Deceased driver: Shawn E. Sutter of Peshastin, WA
Passenger and Peshastin resident, Helen Gosvener (61 year old) sustained injuries from the collision. She was transported to Central Washington Hospital and ultimately to Harbor View Medical Center in Seattle, WA. Her current condition is unknown at this time.
The investigation is ongoing.
