MikeHarumChelan County Sheriff Mike Harum says he is looking forward to a break from the demands of his career for the last 36 years in law enforcement, but it would not surprise him if he ends up back in the field again one day.

Sheriff Harum says he has had numerous requests for interviews, and inquires about rumors he has taken a position with various law enforcement agencies including the Federal Government in Washington DC, and professional law enforcement agencies in the Pacific Northwest.  So far they are all rumors, said a smiling Harum, but there’s been no shortage of job offers and for that he says he is truly grateful.  Harum says for right now he is enjoying winding up his duties to the Citizens of Chelan County, and to the men and women in the Chelan County Sheriff’s Office and neighboring law enforcement agencies.

“I will miss the professionals that I’ve had the pleasure of working along side in a number of important capacities.” he commented.

First of all, he wants to thank the residents of Chelan County for giving him the opportunity to serve them for the past 36 years.

He has built a notable, distinguished and honorable career in law enforcement and is a great partner in working to ensure public safety. While serving the people of Chelan County, he led the sheriff’s office through some of the most difficult financial times we have ever seen and also transformed and modernized the office which has earned prestigious state accreditation.

Sheriff Harum has been the recipient of numerous awards and appointments for his service to the citizens in the county, state and nation.  Throughout his career he took the time to mentor staff and citizens, encouraging them to achieve their full potential. He said “There have been many challenges in the past 36 years but nothing was harder than the murder of Deputy Saul Gallegos”.

For over 36 years, Sheriff Mike Harum dedicated his life to protecting the public and his family.  He said “I have a great career behind me, so much of what I wanted to accomplish is done, I've had a rewarding profession… but it is time to move forward and seek new challenges”.

For the moment, his post-retirement plans generally involve family.

Sheriff Mike Harum is grateful for a rewarding career in the Sheriff’s Office and thanks the many friends, co workers and family for the leadership and mentoring throughout his career. After much consideration, Sheriff Harum said “I believe this is the right decision for my family and me”…. “I am looking forward to retirement and spending time with family and pursuing other activities, which include being active in our community”.
