Chelan County Sheriff - August 18, 2010 - Sheriff Mike Harum reports at 5:50 PM August 18, 2010, Rivercom Dispatch received a 911 phone call concerning a downed aircraft in Manson, WA near the Mill Bay Casino. Deputies arrived to find a single engine Cessna 177A fixed wing plane had crashed landed in a vacant lot near SR 150 in Manson.
The pilot, 57 year old Carl Blum of Manson, WA, and three passengers were traveling back from Cle Elum, when the airplane engine began to sputter. Blum found the vacant field and made an emergency landing. The plane bounced twice but came to a stop upright. Blum and his three passengers had minor injuries.
The National Traffic Safety Board has been notified, and is expected to be on scene this afternoon. Along with the FAA, they will conduct a joint investigation into the cause of the crash.
