ImageChelan County Sheriff - Sheriff Harum reports as of July 30, 2010 the Chelan County Sheriff’s Office is assisting fire personnel with two fires, Tripp Canyon fire and Stehekin fire.

Tripp Canyon: Today, Officials have requested a Type III Incident Command Team for Tripp Canyon which began from Wednesday’s light storm and initially was a 10-15 acre fire. Last night this fire developed into a 40-70 acre fire. Fire authorities are very concerned with the containability of the Tripp Canyon, due to the steep terrain and limited access.

Deputies are in the process of notifying the 12 residents of Tripp Canyon that a level two evacuation has been put into place and a level two evacuation notices reflects, “Indicates there is a significant risk to your area, and residents should either voluntarily relocate to a shelter or with family/friends outside of the area, or, be ready to leave at a moments notice.” Deputies have established a roadblock at the intersection of Tripp Canyon Road and Mission Creek Road to limit traffic to emergency vehicle/residents only.

Stehekin: This fire grew over night to 1000+ acres. Chelan County Sheriff’s Office Emergency Management Team members are currently traveling to Stehekin by boat, on Marine One (CCSO boat) to “tie in” with the resident National Parks Law Enforcement Officer, Bill Fitzpatrick and Chelan County Fire District #10 to assist in any manner.
