Chelan County Sheriff (CCSD) - Chelan County Sheriff Mike Harum reports on 10-12-08 at 5:54 p.m. Chelan County Deputies received a report of a hunter being fatally shot while in his truck. Chelan County Deputies responded with Washington State Fish and Wildlife Enforcement Officers to Bear Mountain Road, and located a 32 year-old male, a resident of Lynwood, WA, deceased in the cab of a pick up.
Deputies detained two acquaintances of the deceased for questioning. It was learned that the deceased had dropped two hunters off on the top of a ridge and drove to a "pick-up" point on Bear Mountain Road. The two hunters completed their hunt and met the deceased at the pre-planned location. While the acquaintances were approaching the vehicle from behind, one of the men was in the process of unloading his .270 caliber rifle when it went off. The bullet traveled through a gate located behind the truck, glanced off the tailgate, continued through the rear window and headrest, striking the victim in the neck.
The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. Chelan County Sheriff Detectives and Washington State Fish and Wildlife Officers are conducting the investigation and will forward all information to the Prosecutor for possible charges.
