Slimming for Summer PDF Print E-mail

ImageHealth (MVT) - As spring approaches, it is time to start thinking about how you are going to look in a swimsuit this summer.  The winter months can take a toll on body shape and the sooner you start exercising, the sooner you will see the results.  Contrary to what you see on TV, getting a better looking body is never accomplished by buying workout equipment, weight loss drugs or books.  If you want a better body, you need to work at it.

Most of us tend to add fat around our waist.  This is one of the hardest areas to loose fat from but do not worry.  Fortunately, small improvements can be made without a rigorous exercise routine.  One of the most effective exercises can be done just about anywhere at any time.

People tend to make fun of others who try to impress by holding in their stomachs.  In truth, this is one of the best exercises for the waist area.  Holding in your stomach will strengthen your internal ab muscles and your back muscles.  It will improve your posture and that will improve your blood flow and mental attitude.

ImageOne way to get the most out of this "exercise" is to stand up straight, exhale all of the air from your lungs using your stomach muscles and try to touch your belly-button to your backbone.  Keep it held in and keep breathing!  Start off "holding it in" for a few seconds.  As time progresses, you will be able to hold it in for longer periods without discomfort.  After several weeks, you should be able to hold it for 90 seconds or longer.  You can perform this exercise standing, sitting, crouching or standing on your head!  You can do it while watching television, driving, waiting in line, etc.

There is more going on here than just flexing muscles.  When you take in deep breaths, you are adding more oxygen to your system.  The oxygen will increase blood flow and burn body fat.  Since oxygen has no calories, you are loosing fat just by breathing better.

Try inhaling very slowly, filling your stomach area first, then your upper chest.  Hold it for a few seconds then exhale as slowly and steadily as possible.  If you start to feel dizzy, sit down and relax.  Then try again.  After a short time, you will not get dizzy doing this exercise.

No amount of exercise is going to help if you do not follow basic health rules.
1. If you take in more calories than you burn, they will be stored as fat.
2. If you take in less calories than you burn, the fat will burn off.
3. Exercise regularly.  Stay active.
4. Eat a balanced diet.  You are what you eat.
5. Don't worry - stress can cause fat storage!

Feel good about yourself.  Start today!
