Chelan, Washington(LCCC) – Chili
cook-off contestants have been hard at work simmering and sampling in hopes of
winning first place at Lake Chelan’s ultimate winter event—Winterfest: Fire and Ice at the Lake on January 18-19. The chili
cook-off is just one of many activities included in Winterfest. Watch
snowmobile drag races, snow and ice sculpting, a torchlight parade, community
bonfire and a spectacular fireworks show.
The 25th
annual Broadstripe Winterfest Chili Cook-off is moving to a new location. On
January 19, contestants will register at Darnell’s Deepwater Event Center at
2:30pm with their best batch of chili. Judging will occur at 3pm. Participants
will compete for more than pride—the first place winner will receive a $100
Chamber Certificate and the opportunity to have their recipe featured at Apple
Cup Café during next year’s Winterfest. Second place will receive a $75 Chamber
Certificate, and third place will receive a $50 Chamber Certificate. To qualify
for the featured chili at the Apple Cup Café, participants must provide a recipe
that may be duplicated according to restaurant health standards.
Not a whiz
in the kitchen? Participate anyway by joining in the Fanta-Sea on Ice Torchlight Parade in downtown Chelan. The parade
kicks off at 6pm on January 19. Entry forms available at the Chamber.
After the
parade, visitors and residents can warm up at the Lion’s Club Community
Bonfire, which is annually fueled by local Christmas trees. Trees can be
donated by dropping them off in the Chelan Marina parking lot beginning January
11. Follow the signs indicating the approved drop-off location. Trees must be
stripped of all ornaments, lights and tinsel. Need help hauling a tree away?
