ImageChelan County Sheriff - Sheriff Mike Harum reports on July 24, 2007 at approximately 11:45 p.m.,  a Chumstick residence was forcibly entered by two armed intruders.  The resident, a male age 57, confronted the intruders, and was forced to the floor at gunpoint.  While on the floor, the resident managed to disarm his assailant, gain control of the weapon, and fire three shots at his attacker.  The victim subsequently lost control of his assailants, and both intruders escaped from the home.

Port of Chelan County Another Step Closer to Purchase of Cashmere Mill Site Property PDF Print E-mail

Image - The Port of Chelan County Commission took another significant step expected to culminate in the purchase of a 32 acre property which once housed a lumber mill in Cashmere.  At a July 19th special meeting of the Port Commission, approval was given to an addendum to an existing purchase and sale agreement with Cedarbrook LLC, to extend the feasibility period to August 17, 2007 to allow for the completion of soil testing and a survey, and to provide sufficient time for the Port to pursue the issuance of general obligation bonds to fund the cost of the acquisition and to begin the reclamation of the property.  The bonds will be repaid from existing Port financial resources; no special levy will be required.

ImageGreater Columbia Water Trails "Inaugural River Run” - the first organized recreational gathering of paddle sport enthusiasts to float and paddle kayaks, canoes and rafts on the developing Greater Columbia Water Trail .  On July 7, 2007 participants paddled  from the Okanogan river bridge just south of Oroville to the sports park at Tonasket.  The event heralded the installation of signs for the first 60 mile segment of the 500+ mile Greater Columbia Water Trail.
