Pick up entry forms for the 9th Annual Holiday Coloring Contest beginning November 27.

Dig out the crayons and win! The Lake Chelan Chamber of Commerce and Safeway present the Chelan Valley’s 9th Annual Holiday Coloring Contest. Children age 10 and under are invited to participate.
Stop by the Safeway video counter or the Lake Chelan Chamber of Commerce to pick up an entry form beginning November 27. Contestants will be divided into three age categories: ages 4 & under, ages 5-7 and ages 8-10.
Prizes will be awarded for each category—first place winners will be awarded $20, second place will receive $15, and third place winners will receive $10. Prizes will be awarded in Chamber Certificates, good for use at over 400 Chelan Valley businesses. Entries must be returned by 5pm on December 17 to the Chamber or the Safeway video counter.
Stop by the Chamber of Commerce after the contest to pick up completed entries and a complementary candy cane from Safeway Food & Drug.

State Fire Marshal Wishes Residents a Fire Safe Holiday Season

Washington State Fire Marshall - The Washington State Fire Marshal’s Office recommends safety be a top priority this holiday season. The risk of fires and burn injuries increases substantially with extra cooking activity and the increased use of holiday lights, candles and other decorations in the home. “Residents should also be careful when using home heating appliances such as fireplaces and space heaters,” says State Fire Marshal Mike Matlick.
The State Fire Marshal’s Office suggests the following tips for a fire safe holiday season:
Elementary PTAC Auction, “Fund-A-Fieldtrip” Raised over $14,000

Manson School District - The first annual Manson Elementary PTCA Auction attended by over 160 people Saturday, November 14 at Banjo Creek Farms was a huge success! The auction raised over $14,300 to pay for field trips, assemblies, and other extended learning opportunities for Manson Elementary students.
Manson Elementary Principal, Heather Ireland shared, “Not only am I excited about the amount of money raised but the phenomenal turn out. This will open so many doors for our students to educational experiences outside of the classroom. Also the staff at Manson Elementary School has expressed to me how pleased they are with the continued dedication and support of our community for our schools.”
Manson Parks and Recreation District - The Manson Parks and Recreation Board of Commissioners would like to invite the public to a reception to welcome the new Parks Director Wai Petersen.
The reception will be held at the Ray Bumgarner building at 312 Quetilquasoon November 19, 2009 from 4:30-5:30, refreshments provided.
Following the reception Manson Parks and Recreation will hold the regular Board of Commissioners monthly meeting at 5:30 p.m. also to be held at 312 Quetilquasoon in the Ray Bumgarner Building.
WSP Toxicology Lab Division Receives Accredidation For Breath Alcohol Program

Only the fourth lab in the world to earn breath test accreditation.
Washington State Patrol (WSP) - The Washington State Patrol received word today that the breath
alcohol program in its Toxicology Lab Division has received international
accreditation from the American Society of Crime Lab Directors/Laboratory
Accreditation Board (ASCLD/LAB.)
The agency’s breath alcohol program installs, maintains and verifies the
accuracy of breath test instruments for all police agencies in the state. WSP’s
lab is only the fourth anywhere to achieve this type of accreditation.
“I’ll take fourth in the world any day,” said WSP Chief John R. Batiste. “I could
not be more proud of the people who made this happen.”
Chelan PUD Adopts 10-year Energy Conservation Targets; Will Offer Conservation Incentives

News from the meeting of the Chelan County Public Utility District Board of Commissioners held on Monday, Nov. 16, 2009
Chelan County PUD - Chelan PUD will offer customers new incentives to save energy in 2010 as part of efforts to meet energy conservation targets mandated by the state Energy Independence Act (I-937). The targets were approved by commissioners on Monday.
Starting Jan. 1, new programs will include financial incentives for residential customers to install energy-saving glass doors, windows and other measures.
The incentives will replace the PUD’s home weatherization loan program. Resource$mart, a conservation program for commercial and industrial customers, will continue, along with support for Community Action Council’s weatherization program for low-income families.

Lake Chelan Chamber of Commerce - The sold-out crowd of professionals beamed with smiles and applause as Business of the Year, the Chelan Valley business community’s most coveted honor, was awarded to Benson Vineyards & Estate Winery. Kathy and Paul Benson, joined by their sons Scott and Jeff, received this top award at the Lake Chelan Chamber of Commerce’s Annual Awards Dinner on November 12.
