Manson FFA Places 17th at State Apple Judging Contest

Manson - The Manson FFA sent 7 members to compete in the State FFA Apple Judging Contest held in Wenatchee on Friday, Dec. 4, 2009 in conjunction with the WA State Horticulture Convention.
There where 118 members competing from 22 schools. The contestant had to Id. Apple Varieties, be able to determine Fruit Maturity, show they could do proper pressure testing technique, identify bugs that are associated with apple farming, grading of apple whether it be extra fancy, fancy or cull and take a written test on proper use of chemicals and chemical safety.

Chelan County Sheriff - Sheriff Mike Harum reports Sunday, December 13, 2009 at approximately 1913 hours, Rivercom advised of a possible burglary “in progress” in the 200 block of Washington Street Cashmere, WA. The reporting party advised her husband, located two males in their basement, one armed with a gun and the other armed with a construction type hammer.
Chelan County Sheriff's Deputies and Detectives responded to the scene. The victims described how two males knocked on the back cellar door to the residence and when they answered the knock, the suspects shoved their way into the basement of the residence.
One suspect had what the victims described as a sawed off shotgun and the other suspect held a hammer. The suspect with the gun pointed it at the three people in the basement. The suspects began taking items. The two suspects fled the scene and investigators believe there was a third suspect who was a “look out”, posted just outside the residence.
If anyone has any information about this incident, we encourage them to contact Chelan County Sheriff's Office. The investigation continues.

Master ice sculptures, a wine walk, barrel room feasts, sleigh rides and fireworks are just some of the features at this year’s festival.
Chelan, Washington – While most people are rushing to locate Christmas tree ornaments and find the perfect holiday gift, a few Lake Chelan residents are gearing up for the season’s biggest event in the Chelan Valley. Preparations are underway for Lake Chelan’s annual transformation into a winter wonderland during 2010 Winterfest: Fire & Ice at the Lake. This three-day festival takes place on Martin Luther King Weekend, January 15-17. During this weekend Chelan bustles with a flurry of Winterfest activities—visitors will sip, stroll, and savor their way through the Chelan Valley.
5th grade student, Maddee Ward wearing Ancient Egyptian Jewelry…a live Python
Manson - Manson Elementary students in grades K-6 attended an Ancient Egyptian Assembly on Friday, December 4th. The students and staff were spelled bound by the presentation as the presenters unraveled the mysteries, myths, and legends of ancient Egypt.
The speaker talked about the history of Ancient Egypt, culture, and geography. Egyptian educators showcased live animal ambassadors and artifacts from Egypt and talked about the important role that animals played in this ancient Culture. They also talked about natural behaviors, natural history, and conservation education.
Manson 6th grade students are currently studying Ancient Egypt, so the assembly subject was perfect timing for the students. The presenters allowed extra time at the end of the show for the 6th graders and their teachers; Mr. Bombaci and Mr. Neff to ask more detailed questions.
The Manson Elementary PTAC members were thanked by Principal Heather Ireland for providing this fun and educational opportunity. Ireland also praised all the students on the fabulous assembly behavior by showing respect and their undivided attention to the presenters.
MHS Music Booster Club Decorated Tree and Desert Auction

Manson - The MHS Music Booster Club will be holding a decorated tree and dessert auction at the 2009 “Snow, Stars, and Bells Concert, directed by Matt Brown and Art Show directed by Phil Thomas” on Monday, Dec. 14th at 7 p.m. in the Secondary commons.
The decorated trees will be auctioned off during the program and the desserts will be sold as silent auction items.
The trees have been beautifully decorated by members of the Manson High School Jazz Band, Wind Ensemble and Choir.
Proceeds from the auction will help fund Manson Music Department travel costs.
Manson Secondary Art teacher, Phil Thomas is also creating a power point presentation of his student’s art projects that will show on the big screen during the musical numbers.

Manson School District Considers Property Purchase

Manson School District - The Manson School District Board of Directors will hold a public hearing on December 21st at 7:30 PM at the Ray Bumgarner Building in order to receive community input on a potential purchase of property.
The home/property under consideration is located at 135 Hill St. The site is surrounded on three sides by school district acreage and sits across the street from the elementary playground and district tennis courts.
Port of Chelan County to Conduct Pybus Public Market Financial Feasibility Study

Port of Chelan County - The Port of Chelan County Commission authorized staff to negotiate an agreement with Property
Counselors, a Seattle based firm, to carry out a financial feasibility analysis of the proposed Pybus Public
Market project. As conceived, the Pybus project would be jointly undertaken by the Port and the City of
Wenatchee. The market would result from a redevelopment and adaptive re‐use of the former Morse
Steel fabrication shop located at the foot of Orondo street in Wenatchee’s downtown riverfront area.
Potential tenants for the market , which would be managed by the City, could include a restaurant,
brewpub, specialty shops, and an outdoor farmers’ market.
