Chelan County PUD (CCPUD) - A power outage is planned from 8 to 11 a.m. on Wednesday, July 8, in Manson and along the south shore of Lake Chelan so PUD crews can safely replace equipment in the Manson Substation.

Up to 1,200 Chelan County PUD customers living north of the Manson Substation, on the north shore of the lake, and those served by the underwater transmission line that carries power to the south shore will be affected.

On the Manson side of the lake that includes areas north of the substation along Totem Pole Road, Washington Street and Faubian Street. On the south shore, the outage will extend from the state park uplake to the end of the road, including Navarre Coulee.

MVT - Katherine A. Linder, RPh, of Manson, was recently installed as a Trustee on the Iowa Pharmacy Association (IPA) Board of Trustees at the 2009 Annual Meeting. The installation of new officers occurred during IPA's Annual Banquet on Saturday, June 20, at the Marriott Cedar Rapids.  Linder will serve on the Board for two years.

Linder graduated from the University of Iowa College of Pharmacy.  She began her career at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City, working both in the inpatient and outpatient pharmacies.  She was also employed as a research scientist for Warner Lambert Pharmaceuticals.  Linder served on the Iowa Board of Pharmacy from 1997 through 2006, serving as Chairman of the Board from 2004-2006. Linder currently works both at Medicap Pharmacy in Manson and the Rockwell City Community Pharmacy in Rockwell City serving as a community pharmacist.

"We are pleased to have KAP on our Board," said Tom Temple, Executive Vice President of the Iowa Pharmacy Association. "Because of her strong leadership, we will be able to make a difference in the lives of the patients we serve and to the profession of pharmacy in Iowa."

The Iowa Pharmacy Association is the state society representing the profession of pharmacy, united for the purpose of advancing public health, particularly the pharmaceutical care of all Iowans.  The Iowa Pharmacy Association is organized to preserve and advance the interests of the profession and to serve the professional needs of all pharmacists, pharmacy students, and pharmacy technicians with more than 1200 members statewide.

A 4th of July Breakfast is being held to raise funds for the Manson United Methodist Church.  Volunteers will be serving up delicious day starters from 7am to 10am at the Manson Grange Community Center.

Manson, WA - U.S. Senator Maria Cantwell has afforded Cameron Hodges and Pedro Magana an opportunity to work in her Washington D.C. office as Student Interns this summer. Magana is a 2009 graduate from Manson High School and Hodges is a 2010 senior at Manson High School who will be entering his second year in the Running Start Program at Wenatchee Valley College.

The Manson High School youths met Senator Cantwell last summer during her visit to Manson for the 4th of July Celebration. She explained how to apply for a Senatorial Internship and what was entailed. Cameron and Pedro eagerly took Senator Cantwell up on her offer and completed the application process last winter.

Both boys are excited to further their interests in politics and law. They will learn firsthand about our legislative branch during their summer stint on Capitol Hill. Their Internships begin the 29th of June and may extend through the 20th of August.

As interns, Cam and Pedro will work hand in hand with legislative staff, constituent relations staff, communications staff and administrative staff. Each intern will assist with leading tours of the US Capitol, front office reception, and various constituent services and events.

Senator Cantwell looks for students who demonstrate leadership, thoughtfulness, creativity, a strong attention to detail, and a sense of public service. Both Cameron and Pedro are looking forward to representing our valley and state in Washington, DC. They find the opportunity as a great honor and privilege.

Author Diane Hammond will offer an exciting and thought provoking multi-media presentation about the hot- button issues surrounding appropriate captivity for some of the world’s largest, most charismatic mammals.

She will also talk about the love affair between zoo keepers and the animals in their care, and how she turned her own life-changing experience with Keiko, the killer whale star of the Free Willy movie, into her third and bestselling novel, HANNAH’s DREAM, about a captive Asian elephant and the people who love her.

Washington State Patrol (WSP) - Amy Story, the 27 year old Spokane woman reported missing after leaving her vehicle aboard a Washington State Ferry was reunited with her family after being located by a Sergeant with the Lake Forest Park Police Department.
