Senator Parlette Update on Reopening the Upper Stehekin Valley Road

ImageOn July 30 I had the opportunity to testify before Congress in support of reopening the upper portion of the Stehekin Valley Road. This road, also called the “road to Cottonwood Camp,” has been in place since the 19th century – long before the North Cascades National Park was created in 1968, and even before my grandfather worked on one of the original small ferries that traveled from Chelan to Stehekin in 1899.

Chelan County PUD Financial Update Shows Same Year-End Losses

ImageChelan County PUD (CCPUD) - In spite of cutbacks in large projects, days off without pay and a temporary electric rate surcharge, Chelan County PUD commissioners were told Monday that the PUD still expects a loss of $18 million to $20 million by year end. The loss in Utility Services net assets had been forecast previously in that range.

John Janney, chief financial officer and chief risk officer, presented his quarterly update to commissioners and explained where things stand. He said all contingency planning steps taken so far are designed to help get the PUD on sound financial footing for 2012 and beyond.

Proceeds benefit the Manson Business Association in support of Manson/Lake Chelan Valley events and activities.

Location: Manson, WA - Leffler Field (next to Mt. View Lodge)

Dates: August 12 - 15, 2009

Times: Wed - Fri - 3 PM to closing.  Sat - 11 AM to closing

Cost: Armbands - ONLY $20 per day (non-transferable and non-refundable)

        Individual - $3.50 per ride or 5 tickets for $15.00  (one ticket per ride)

Sheriff's Marijuana Eradication Report

ImageChelan County Sheriff (CCSD) - Chelan County Sheriff Mike Harum reports Agents from the Columbia River Drug Task Force, the Washington State Patrol, the Federal Drug Enforcement Agency and Chelan County deputies conducted flight operations with 3 helicopters for the past several weeks in efforts to locate Marijuana grow operations in Chelan County.  Over 12,000 Marijuana plants have been located in various areas of the county.  These Marijuana operations are similar to operations found in North Central Washington in past years.

Manson Community Council (MCC) - The Manson Community Council will be hosting a Public Open House and Hearing to review the Manson Comprehensive Plan, new Urban Growth Area and implementing development regulations to guide future development.

The public Open House starts at 6pm followed by a Public Hearing at 7pm on August 25, 2009 at the School Commons, 1000 Totem Pole Road, Manson.

PUD Commissioners Approve Collective Bargaining Agreement

ImageChelan County PUD (CCPUD) - PUD commissioners on Monday approved a new three-year agreement with Local No. 77 of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, which includes about 454 PUD employees.   The agreement was accepted by the union on July 28.

Attempted Kidnapping in Cashmere

ImageChelan County Sheriff (CCSD) - Chelan County Sheriff Mike Harum reports on August 1, 2009 at 2:45 PM RiverCom 911 center received a report of an attempted kidnapping in the area of Binder Road, Cashmere. The caller indicated a 20 year old female was assaulted by a white male as he was attempting to kidnap her.
