WSP - Between midnight February 1, 2009, through 3:00 a.m. February 2, 2009, Troopers of the Washington State Patrol arrested 125 drivers for DUI.
Troopers on special emphasis patrols throughout the state worked hard to keep this Super Bowl Sunday super safe. There was only one traffic fatality
this Super Sunday.
In comparison, January 25, 2009, the Sunday before Super Sunday, there were 75 DUI arrests during the same time frame. This is a 60% increase in DUI arrests from one week to the next.
We see a lot of advertizing that links Super Bowl Sunday with alcohol” said Chief John Batiste of the WSP. “The responsibility is still on the individual not to drink and drive.”
For comparison; in 2006, when the Seahawks competed in Super Bowl 40, there were 128 DUI’s arrested.
